Have a clue

June 15th, 2018

What does it mean to have a clue? A clew is the string that guides you on a winding path through a labyrinth. A clue guides you on your path. You have to wake up to have a clue. It is true that everyone has a clue, but not everyone wants to know. Some people deny or reject their clue. Spiritual practices such as study, service, and meditation will bring you closer to your inner clue. Take the time to practice and learn to recognize your clue.

Some people abuse their clue or accuse others of not having a clue when they themselves refuse to get a clue. Others may judge you for your clue or apparent lack thereof. If you said something ridiculously outrageously ignorant, I could say you were clueless or I could suggest that you get a clue. You may not feel like having a clue, but you should at least act like you’ve got one. I mean really!

How do we find the real clue? If you have gotten this far, it’s easy. You already know this. The answer is within. You find your very own unique universal clue within you, that part of you that knows that it knows. When Consciousness awakens inside you, the clue is you. Always & already here. You are the clue. Yes! You are the Cleu.

Come together to be the clue

April 30th, 2017

In this era of fake news, mass migration, political instability, and climate crisis, people need a clue more than ever. As a country, we face threats to democracy, freedom, and the environment. People are taking to the streets and fields challenging powerful interests against steep odds. On the front lines, Native Americans have come together, along with veterans, climate activists, and other allies, to obstruct those who would jeopardize their land and water with an oil pipeline. Water belongs to all. Water is Life!

Recently, more than three million men and women marched in cities around the globe in an historic demonstration on behalf of human rights. In aerial images, humanity looks like one organism, a higher collective consciousness yearning for justice, truth, and harmony. Here in America we are engaged in a global social experiment, a melting pot and multi-colored tapestry of cultures and religions, founded on the ideals of liberty and equality. We are the Dream for the rest of the world. If we can find harmony here, the whole world can find harmony. When we come together as one, we experience the power of collective consciousness.

On Earth Day, April 22nd, scientists and their supporters all over the country held a March for Science in Washington DC and in satellite marches all over the world. Science is an established consensus of many, a global agreement about the facts, and a skeptical methodology that tests for truth and accuracy. The whole world got a clue about climate change by using scientific methods, rigorously peer-reviewed evidence, and consensus according to academic standards. In the 2015 Paris agreement, the countries of the world agreed to mitigate global warming by pledging to reduce emissions. On April 29th, the People’s Climate March will take place in DC and in marches and rallies all over. As 350.org says, “to change everything, we need everyone.” Be there!

Here in the U.S., climate science and policy information continues to be removed from federal websites, and scientists are concerned that their data may be next. The public relations industry continues to cast doubt on science, and the media presents a misleading debate that belies scientific consensus. People with a clue must stand up for consciousness, choosing to act in accordance with our best understanding of who we are. We look to science, our collective understanding, to provide the most rational and informed perspective. Through science, we recognize that we are one people on one planet, our only home.

The whole world gets a clue

December 23rd, 2015

After historic negotiations held by the Conference of Parties (COP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change held in Paris, all 196 countries in the world have agreed to the first climate deal that commits all countries to cutting emissions of greenhouse gasses that contribute to global warming.
BBC World News reports that the COP 2015 agreement calls for all countries:

• To peak greenhouse gas emissions as soon as possible and achieve a balance between sources and sinks of greenhouse gases in the second half of this century
• To keep global temperature increase “well below” 2C (3.6F) and to pursue efforts to limit it to 1.5C
• To review progress every five years
• $100 billion a year in climate finance for developing countries by 2020, with a commitment to further finance in the future.

The whole world just got a clue about climate change! This global agreement, part voluntary, part legally-binding, could be a lot stronger, but it does give us hope for the future. Climate activists in Paris used their creativity to show that there are red lines that must not be crossed, that only a 1.5 degrees Celsius limit offers a chance of saving many coastal lands and island nations, and that wealthy countries must aid the most vulnerable.

Though much more remains to be done, our shared climate crisis is a planetary opportunity for humanity to work together towards a vision of an equitable, peaceful, and sustainable world. People with a clue would stop global warming and global warring, right? Research shows it is possible to go 100 percent renewable energy without wrecking the economy. What innovations we would see! We can do this.

Our choices create our spirit. It’s up to us.

To Change Everything, We Need Everyone

September 29th, 2014

Over 400,000 people participated in the People’s Climate March (September 2014) in New York City, along with over 2500 solidarity events around the world, representing all of us who care about the future. Take a moment to reflect on these messages from the different marching blocs:
It takes everyone to change everything;
The debate is over;
We know who is responsible;
We have solutions;
We can build the future;
Honor those on the front lines of crisis, the forefront of change.

Participants paused in silence to reflect for a few minutes on the consequences of climate chaos to those on the frontlines, including indigenous communities and farmers, coastal and island people, desert to forest dwellers, and all those who suffer environmental injustice. A most inspiring and unifying message was demonstrated so beautifully that it now defines our global climate movement: To change everything, we need everyone.

Together, we are the clue!

Our New Normal

September 19th, 2014

Climate change is upon us. Winter without snow? We know what that feels like now. The hottest August ever recorded? Just happened. Wildfires are bigger than ever, and in California, fire season lasts all year. Droughts, dust, fire, and deluge are becoming part of our new normal.

Scientists have studied the effect of increased carbon in the air for over 100 years. It’s a matter of physics and chemistry. The amount of carbon recorded in the atmosphere every month now exceeds 400 parts per million. Scientists tell us that any amount over 350 ppm is not conducive to life and civilization as we know it. We already see more extreme weather events, ocean warming and acidification, and record-breaking temperatures. To prevent climate chaos, we must promote low-carbon economies with renewable energies like solar, wind, water, geothermal, and others.

At the UN Climate Summit 2014 in NYC, over 125 world leaders met to discuss a more coordinated response to this global crisis. The World Meterological Organization (WMO) displayed imaginary Weather Reports for the Future, depicting likely local impacts of global climate change. According to the WMO, average global temperatures in the year 2050 could rise more than 4°C (7.2°F) if greenhouse gas emissions are not stemmed. Are you ready for a new normal of unbearable heat waves, mega-droughts, massive flooding, super storms, dying coral reefs, less diverse marine life, and the drowning of coasts and islands due to rising sea-levels?

Climate change is a disturbing subject, but it should not be a controversial one. The science is in. We may disagree about how to transition from a fossil fuel economy or which solutions to prioritize, but we must heed scientific warnings about dangerous tipping points. We can and should make changes in our personal lives, choosing sustainable practices such as reducing, reusing, and recycling and making voluntary simplicity a way of life. We must also support social, economic, and political changes to address the costs of climate chaos now and in the future. People with a clue need to promote and protect our Big Four values: clean air and water, healthy food, and renewable energy. For a more livable future, we must reduce carbon emissions now! Make climate action part of your new normal. Be the clue!
